Ayodhya has long been a favourite destination to learn about Lord Rama, which is the seventh incarnation of Supreme Lord Vishnu. In this 6-day trip, we explore the famous city of Varanasi and attend the amazing Ganga Aarti before exploring the city in a whole. Then to Prayagraj where Mankameshwar Temple is located in. It is famed as the holy city where the confluence of three rivers, the Sangam, is located in. Then another day excursion to Chitrakoot, a location well-known in the scriptures and legends as Lord Rama’s home during his exile. We’ll go to Hanuman Dhara and Gupta Godavari, before heading to Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama. Here’s where the origin of the supreme god begins, various temples and Sarayu River Ghat that has significant mentions in multiple stories.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Varanasi, we’ll pick you up at the airport/railway station to be brought to the hotel and check-in. In the evening, we’ll visit Dashashwamedh Ghat to attend the Ganga Aarti before we explore Godowlia Crossing in Varanasi for local Lassi or Thandai. We go back to our hotel before we explore what is believed to be the oldest living city in the world. Spend an overnight at the hotel.

After breakfast, we’ll visit Assi Ghat, a great spot to get a spectacular view of sunrise. Then from Assi Ghat, we’ll take a boat to head for Dashashwamedh Ghat, and then to Kashi Vishwanath Temple to take part in Jyotirlinga Darshan. The Annapurna Temple is within walking distance from Vishwanath Temple and is dedicated to goddess Annapurna. You can see an idol of the goddess carved in the 18 th century that had traveled across the seas and finally returned to Varanasi. Then we’ll visit one of the oldest Shiva temples in Varanasi, Kaal Bhairav Temple. Also Durga Temple, which is also called the Monkey temple, that features multi-tiered shikhara and incredible North Indian Nagara architecture design. You also don’t want to miss Tulsi Manas Temple that is blessed with a beautiful view of the city and significantly important historical value in Hinduism. Sankat Mochan Temple that is dedicated to the Hindu God Hanuman is another must-see holy temple founded in the 16 th century and is one of the oldest Hindu shrines in Varanasi. We’ll also see Birla Temple, which is a modern-day temple located inside Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. While in BHU, we’ll also enter Bharat Kala Bhavan, the university museum that displays culturally and historically important knowledge about art and culture of India. Then we’ll go to Bharat Mata temple which is located inside the campus of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth. It is one of the rare temples where instead of idols, it has the carving of undivided India’s map in marble instead and is dedicated to Bharat Mata, or the “Mother India.” After lunch, we’ll visit Sarnath, a small village located about 10 km from the holy city. It is well-known as where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma. Now, it’s a deer park adorned with Buddhist monuments and excavation spots. There’s also the Sarnath Museum and a beautiful Buddha Park for a relaxing walk around before returning back to Varanasi for dinner and for an overnight stay at the hotel.

After an early breakfast, we drive to Prayagraj from 8 am and arrive in about 3 hours. We’ll stop at Vindhyachal Temple on our way where Markandeya Purana is believed to have incarnated and killed the demon Mahishasura. The river Ganga also flows through this pilgrimage site. Upon arrival, we will do check-in at the hotel before exploring the city. We’ll visit several spots, starting from Sangam Sthal. Then to Anand Bhawan, a historic house museum in Prayagraj of Nehru family. Then to Chandrashekhar Azad Park, a beautiful public park that was opened in 1870 to commemorate Prince Alfred’s visit to the city. It is also the biggest park in the city. Akshayavata is another spot to visit in Prayagraj, known as the sacred fig tree from the mythology. Prayagraj is known as one of the holy cities of India, a perfect day excursion from Varanasi. The city is often mentioned in histories and mythological stories as Prayag or Teerthraj as a holy pilgrimage centre and where the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati meet. This confluence is called Sangam and is where Magha fairs take place and becomes the destination of pilgrims every year. The Kumbh Fair is held every 12 th year and is dubbed as the world’s largest congregation of devotees. One of these temples is the Patalpuri Temple, which is believed to be the holiest in the city. We’ll visit the temple where people believed to have been visited by Lord Rama and famed Chinese traveller and writer, Hiuen Tsang. We’ll also visit the Mankameshwar Temple, located at the bank of Yamuna River, is one of the most visited temples. And nature lovers are going to love Minto Park, located not far from the temple. After dinner, we spend an overnight stay at the hotel in Prayagraj.

After an early breakfast, we set off on a day trip to Chitrakoot, a 3-hour drive from Prayagraj. Known as “the hills of many wonders,” this beautiful district is celebrated in various writings and medium. From ballads to religious scriptures, the place remains a popular destination for pilgrimage or just a sightseeing trip with references to the epic Ramayana. We’ll visit Kamadgiri, a hallowed hills surrounded by forests where Kamadgiri Temple and other temples can be found. Then to Ram Ghat, a popular spot believed to be where Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lord Laxman spoke with Saint Goswami Tulsidas when they spent 12 years in exile. Next is the beautiful Hanuman Dhara as you listen to the calming, gentle sound of the spring flowing down Lord Hanuman’s statue. Janki Kund, located not far from Ram Ghat, has a beautiful view of the reservoir of Chitrakoot, situated on the banks of River Mandakini. And not to be missed is the unique Ram Darshan where worship and offerings are prohibited, but instead imparts important moral lessons to visitors and devotees. Ganesh Bagh will spoil you with the gorgeous architecture of the seven-storey baoli and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Before we leave, we’ll visit Gupta Godavari, where the river pinched between two rocks is believed to be River Godavari who secretly came with the wish to see Lord Rama. It is a nature wonder because the tiny rivulet that was the source of the tanks of water in an underground cave temple, where two stone-carved thrones are believed to be where Lord Rama and Lord Lakshmana sat on. We return to Prayagraj for dinner and spend overnight at the hotel.

Enjoy an early breakfast before we check-out to head for Ayodhya. Upon arrival, we’ll check-in and begin an exciting sightseeing around the city.
Also known as Saketa, Ayodhya is an ancient city believed to be the birthplace of Rama. It is also the main setting of the epic Ramayana and is filled with archaeological wonders used to serve as the capital city when it was called Awadh. Located on the banks of river Sarayu, our first destination will the Ram Janmabhoomi that literally means “Rama’s Birthplace.” An ancient temple used to be here before it was destroyed in 1528, but what was left, such as the columns, are still very well-preserved. Then we’ll visit Kanak Bhawan, located on the northeast of Ram Janmabhoomi. It is one of the finest temples in Ayodhya, believed to be the current biggest with aesthetically pleasing architecture. Then we’ll head to one of the most popular temples in Ayodhya, Hanuman Garhi. Built in the 10th century, this temple is one of the cornerstone temples along with Nageshwar Nath and Ram Temple which is under construction.
Lakshman Kila is another temple we don’t want to miss, located within the Terhi Bazar. Sarayu River Ghat is another famous spot in Ayodhya, known as the river where Lord Rama legendarily took Jal Samadhi. The Seventh Avatar of Vishnu was said to have walked deep into the Sarayu River and vanished.
We enjoy dinner after a long day checking out the city and return to the hotel to rest for the night.
